Harnessing the Healing Power of Nature: Microdosing Mushrooms for Anxiety and Depression Relief

Hey, Gorgeous -

Let’s talk about micro-dosing for healing. It’s a popular topic and many people have been asking me about it.

Anxiety and depression are so hard on the mind and body, but especially hard on our spirits. Reaching a higher vibration, channeling your inner power, and seeking spiritual wholeness are incredibly hard to do when your thoughts feel like they were put on a spin cycle and your consciousness feels like it's under a dense fog. It is understandable that we seek out whatever we can to limit the effects of these illnesses.

If you’re reading this blog, I suspect you are a seeker of healing on every level. You’re not looking to mask the problem with alcohol or drugs and you may be leery of pharmaceutical solutions. But you are looking for relief.  So let’s talk about mushrooms.

I am so excited to see the growing interest in alternative and natural approaches to mental health. One of these is micro-dosing with mushrooms as a potential remedy for anxiety and depression. By micro-dosing, I mean ingesting very small doses of psychedelic mushrooms on a regular schedule, with the goal of experiencing subtle therapeutic effects without the intense hallucinogenic experience. In other words, experiencing the calm without the high! Much of the research is new, but I can tell you from my own personal experience and my client’s experiences, it can have great benefits.

Understanding Micro-dosing

Micro-dosing is an ancient practice popular in many indigenous cultures that used small quantities of psychedelic substances for various purposes, including spiritual and medicinal reasons. Today, the term primarily refers to the practice of taking minute amounts of substances such as psilocybin-containing mushrooms or LSD.

The active ingredient responsible for the psychedelic effects of “magic mushrooms” is psilocybin. When ingested in larger quantities, psilocybin can induce powerful hallucinations and altered perceptions. However, when consumed in tiny, controlled amounts, it can have beneficial effects without the overwhelming psychedelic experience.

How Microdosing Works for Anxiety and Depression

The science of micro-dosing is still very much in the early stages, but these are a few ways in which micro-dosing may help alleviate anxiety and depression:

  • Neuroplasticity: Psilocybin is believed to promote the brain's ability to rewire and form new connections which can lead to increased adaptability, allowing individuals to better cope with stress and anxiety. You can literally rewire your brain and nervous system with this sacred plant medicine. Add in breathwork while you micro-dose and you will see POWERFUL results and an immediate physical transformation.

  • Serotonin Modulation: Psilocybin interacts with the serotonin receptors in the brain, particularly the 5-HT2A receptor. This interaction is thought to influence mood regulation and emotional processing, potentially reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.

  • Reduction in Rumination: Microdosing may help reduce excessive rumination - which you’ll know if you suffer from either is a common issue in anxiety and depression!  By disrupting negative thought patterns, individuals may experience increased mental clarity and improved emotional well-being.

  • Mindfulness and Self-Awareness: Microdosing is often associated with enhanced mindfulness and introspection. We know it is by going deeper into our internal experience that our greatest healing is done and psilocybin mushrooms can help us connect with ourselves. My mantra is, "The only way out is through and you have to feel to heal."

  • Increased Emotional Connection: For many, micro-dosing increases feelings of empathy and emotional connection, which can improve our relationships and give us more confidence in social situations.

Types of Mushrooms for Microdosing

There are many, many types of psilocybin mushrooms to explore. Lately, I’ve been doing lots of research on the mushroom known as penis envy (that name, though - yikes! 😝hahaha). This mushroom, so named for its very distinctive shape, is one of the most potent mushrooms we know about, and they typically contain higher levels of psilocybin than other types. While more is not always better, I’m loving what I’m learning and the results I’m seeing from the penis envy mushroom. What I love most about penis envy mushrooms is that they are gentle, easy to navigate, and heart-opening.

The Importance of Responsible Use

I want to take a moment to emphasize how crucial it is to responsibly use micro-dosing. While you can do it safely on your own, working with a skilled practitioner is the best way to avoid improper dosing. We want to avoid the adverse effects of getting the dose wrong so we can prevent exacerbating existing mental health issues or creating new ones.

If you’re looking to start your journey with psychedelic mushrooms to improve mental health and clear spiritual blocks, I would love to be your guide. I use psychedelic mushrooms as a plant medicine in a very ceremonial and sacred way paying close attention to dose, set, and setting.

As I mentioned earlier, adding in breathwork while you micro-dose is a wonderful way to gain massive transformational results quickly! In a 2-hour breathwork journey with micro-dosing, you will experience heart and mind coherence, rewire your nervous system, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, experience increased mental clarity, and feel 100% aligned and grounded.
